August 2009

Was back in SS yesterday for a quick do.. Since it was a long holiday and was expecting every one is getting out of Malaysia due to H1N1 might be a good idea to take a drive back to hometown.. surprisingly was a smooth drive and did not take long to get back.. BUT to the KL folks BEWARE… beware of the Jelapang highway twist.. Imemdiately after the south IPOH toll keep left to get into the Ipoh Jelapang diversion. There is NO exit into Jalan Kuala Kangsar until you cross the tunnel and sg Perak till you get out at Kuala Kangsar toll and you have to come back from KK. (Koh Tsu koon driver made the same mistake – Think he is still around ) . So those getting off the NS highway to go to Sungei Siput had better get out at left exit after Ipoh south toll. By the way the exit is about two km from the turn off into Ipoh. and another 9 km to exit at Jelapang Meru Exit.

For those going to Putri’s puteri wedding reception from KL you should exit at Simpang Pulai latest or else you would have over shot.

Back to Sungei Siput… had a good constituency tour by our YB of the town. Non other than YB Tasan Singh … brought me to all the nooks and corners of the town that only lawyers going after thier payment would dare venture into.. I must say he now know SS better than me..at least if not than everyone.. I bet he knows it better than the actual YB. so you guys know who is your best hosts in town.. He knows the best coffee, coffee, tea…or mee and shiu yok! I dare profess i have not ever seen a que that long for this delicacy anywhere any time in Malaysia . It must be the best darn Shiu Yok in Malaysia… The whole coffee shop is fill will people with just a cup of coffee and a splatter of teh delicacy infront of them sputtered with soya sauce.. I did not manage to garner my guts to que for it but because of Tasan’s connection in town , we got Aik Hooi’s brother to do the dirty job for us.. Got us almost half of kilo of them chunky meat ..I cant complain but I think it is the atmosphere of queing and anticipation that makes it extra special…and probably the price too. For the portion of four of us . it was served like there was a party of ten..Mind you we are in the midst of the hungry ghost festival. But I think the price was a fraction of what you would pay in KL. Good stuff though…. Maybe it is good reason enough to retire peacefully in SS? Tasan want some biking company ?

We went to the ‘tapak’ of the school where we were in primary one to five.. The big tree is still standing there .. but why I said tapak… is because it is what is left of it… just the base cement.. no stilts , no walls , no plank , no roof .. plain old cement in cracking under the plain sunny skies. The church is still in an admirable condition .. and mind you the view from there to the hills and beyond is fantastic ..never got a view of that before.. suddenly felt like I was in Hirschorn on the banks of the Rhine close to Baden Baden .. ( Minus the weather)

These little jewels of our beloved town still lies unearth … Hopefully it is kept that way for the future generations to come ..

There has been lots of changes but because everytime I get back it was more or less time to spend with the family and food and celebrations that it just passed off me what may have changed in the town.. reflections reflections ! I would really encourage you guys to do some of this .. it is really a good feeling knowing what has changed and what has not in the place you you came from .

Well tomorrow is Merdeka Day! And it is a long holiday .. Would like to take this opportunity to wish all my friends and friends to be a very very very united National Day… In the midst of the impending uncertain scenario , I would wish for a very harmonious and peaceful society for our future generations and let them know how well thier parents got together regardless of race, religion and beliefs. This is one thing that I believe the present matured society has to retract and go back to the basics to educate thier very own siblings on the vital importance of freedom and unity.. I think many has lost this in the incessant pursuit of the material world. But again it is this pursuit that is NOW in front of our eyes as we term them as ‘Progress” .. but lacking is the same clean spirit that many today have forgotten to instill into thier young ones.. Many of the true virtues have been taken for granted .. many of the profusing sweat from the hill climbings have been forsaken for the high and mighty computer … Not knowing how to sweat is not a substitute for learning how to build your character from reading the contents in the airwaves.. It is time to bring them home . Home to Sungei Siput …
See you guys back soon…

Had a hearty lunch with Mun Foo, Sea Ping, Aik Hooi, Soo Har,Wai Fong, Chok Thin, Wata Li, Amy, and Sea Ping’s princess at Overseas restaurant in Jaya 1.

Shared the copies of printed photos taken during the reunion party. Realised we started to talk about new stories … not as much as stories of the reunion but more of the times as a kid in MSS. Two did not turn up … Chee Wai and Rose…. Wonder if this could be coincidental.. Wai Fong had initially thought of a lunch for two not expecting a table full.. anyway we both decided to tag along with the group.. as we wanted to get the coveted CDs from SP and the tickets for the performance. Was a good lunch and a hearty laugh all round when we talked about the good old days..

The CDs for Leong Lai Chan, Lau Wai Ling, Koh Poh Lin, Cheong Kay Keng, Khor Lee Cheng and Chung Yoke Yee are with me.. will send KayKeng the CD to Kuching …. think will meet up with The rest in the performance dinner next week . if not I am not able to make it , i will pass the lot to Lai Chan…

Still no takers on who will be making the trip back to MSS on Tuesday next week. Please let us know if any of you are able to make it … see you guys in the school at 10 am … have a small chat with the head master .. and then head off for a quick lunch…

I think lunches like these are indeed great … to talk and chat up ….. So Tom, please have your Ah Xian start food trail …I think you will have Tasan and a few from KL coming down… anyone interested to go please call… will try to arrange …the car pool..

Regards

Barry

Hello,,

The title seems appropriate I thought as it seems to be the exact vibrations I have in me with regards to this pet blogsite. I have been away for about a week and was not able to access to this blogsite as it was blocked in that country. But it did take a while for me to catch up with the happenings and glad to see so much activities all lined up ..
Just before I took off I had posted the events that could happen in the near future that we could all be part of.. And I am especially glad to know of the coming event at the school… on October 25th, 2009. And most certainly we hope to have another bash for the classmates of 1977 to get together. This time at the scene of the crime… The school…! Would need some time to figure out how we can be an active part of this and if need be we will need some local help to make this another success for the school. Maybe we can have a chat with the school board and headmaster during the coming visit to the school next Monday morning in order to have a better feel on what can be done .So those who are interested to pop in please please do so… I know it is the holy month of Ramadhan and would be great to wrap up all these before the sun hits twelve noon. Would love to have some particiation from our Malay friends out there. As for arrangements of rides and timing , we will gather at the school by 10am? ( Tasan let me know if this is too late or if it is not appropriate with the school ) . You all now have the numbers of all your friends from the album and I am sure it would be better for all to post who will be attending and driving from KL or Ipoh to car pool. ( I think See Yoke Keong did NOT arrange a bus to pick us all up from One World for this trip! … But Lunch for those elligible is on him! … at least he is a self professed foodaholic!) .

I also noticed som activities getting on with face book and Net log and ……. This is getting confusing for an old man like me .. i think I prefer sticking to the snail mails like the good old days.. the waiting part of the mail and the postman makes the message all so much sweeter. Anyway the idea is to KEEP inTOUCH>.
I just received a sms from a dear dear friend … staying close to me when I on my way back … after a long day .. My heart raced when I saw the sms while driving as i saw her name… After 23 days she decided to sms me… I wasnt even hoping for a call. Just a simple ..Hi! on a sms will do … i am a simple person… sentimental of sorts …. ! Couldnt wait to see the entire sms .. so I flip the next page with my diligent thumb.. Hoping I will get an invitation for an drink and a chat to catch up…
Screeech! The smell of burning tyres caught up after my car came to a grinding halt…. Dis believed that I got the THIS sms I grab myold faithfull myopic glasses … and Darn… i was right… She JUST SENT THREE words! after 23 days!
My heart fell to the bottom of my feet seated next to the accelerator! What is wrong with the world today .. IS the IT era that inefficient ? How could this happen to me ! .. Why me? Why Her ?
Aiyoo… She sent these three words….. to open my eyes? To close my raging passion ? to douse my burning fire? But it certainly did none of those above… All it did was … Aiyah ! Life is like that … 命中有时终须有,命中无时莫强求。(Translated … que sera sera what ever will be …will be …. And the story goes on ! )
Lost in Tasan’s Jungle? The lady sent ME the following sms….
HI! SOO HA!
Urrg! wrong lumber la… then she repented saying it was her LFF problem. ( Low Far Factor– old sight problem .. which was lame la.. )
SOO HAR and TIONG SOON are spelt like CHina and Timbucktoo.. apart.. But I had to accept her version of the mistake… lamely … But I guess the lesson learnt is that the reunion certainly sparked off quite a cross fire between all the classmates .. and it IS CERTAINLY a great THING to happen for all of us at this time … KEEP up the comms line and enjoy each other company… reach out your helping hand and consoling arms. Those without the opportunity can offer your irreplaceable wit and humor … those with the serious face off version can chip in too … there are certainly some serious faces out there too..

DONT ASK ME WHO SENT ME THAT SMS >>>>> I promise you I will NOT tell.

Enjoy…

Halo, Halo, Halo,

Just delivered DVDs to Tom See and Tasan today. Thanks Tom for the lunch so anyone who wants to have FREE lunch, go to Eon Bank in Green Town Ipoh. Very good delicious Curry Fish Head. Tom, I will be back for more.

Next venue Tasan’s office. This “Green” Lawyer office has both his toilets covered by many green plants like going thro’ jungle to look for the loo. And guess what you find in his toilet????????????? A clock!!!!!!!! You see the seconds hand moving “tick, tick, tick” so beware; lawyer charge you every seconds including time spend in the loo and being the fair lawyer, you know how much time you spend there. Ha..ha..Ha…..

I spend quite some in Tasan’s office and goodness, he has got a young and beautiful wife. Tasan, my hubby asks if she is one of your students??????? Had a very good discussion with Tasan and have this to report to everyone. Attached pls find the final accounts of our collection. We have Rm 9379.03 in the coffers.

Tasan attended the BOG meeting today in the school. There is a list of important things that is required by the students. One of it are the tables which are really in bad condition; just like what we saw in the presentations during the dinner. The school need to replace 700 tables and one of the ex-student has offered to sell them at a special price of RM76 each. These tables are not easily scratchable so can last longer (not like those that we carve our names with all the cupid arrows). The BOG has purchased 150 pieces that need to be replaced badly so balance is 550 pieces. We have decided to use our RM9379.03 plus another RM1000 donated by Low Yen Kieong to purchase 136 tables for the student. We will try to see if we can put a small plague at the table stating “MSS1977″.

The school also need 16 grided white boards for teaching maths and geography which cost RM350 each. I have decided to donate this to the students, part of my social responsibilty to my alma mater. Don’t despair. Ha..ha.. You guys and gals are needed to do your fair bit for the school. Before I elaborate further on what is needed, let me share with you a very good samaritarian among us. He is non other than our Lord of the Jungle, Tasan who holds the law of the jungle degree as well as London Law degree. Every year when school term starts, students from Methodist who cannot afford to pay their fees or uniform, will go to his office to ask for aids. (The lady selling clothes below his office tells us about his good deeds) He will also help poor students to buy workbooks to improve their studies. Kudos to you, Tasan. I am proud we were classmates and friends.

So now, the interesting event. The school will be celebrating her 80th anniversary on 25th October 2009. The event will start from 11am to 3pm, with lunch/tea provided. The BOG has decided to take from their coffers to cover for lunch+tea which amounts to about RM15 per person. The BOG is expecting about 200-250 old students to attend this event so estimated cost will about RM3000 plus. This will be a very good opportunity for us to visit our school and our old classrooms to rekindle good old memories. The school would like to raise funds during this event so get ready to HELP our old school. This is a good chance for us to do our part for the school who have mold us to what we are today. There is so many things that is needed such as awnings to keep away rains instead of windows(more expensive) at the exam hall, new coat of paint, toilets and many other things such as a new building block of classrooms.

The class of 76, 72, 78 and others are now starting to gather their classmates to chip in for the future of the school such as tables. I believe, if all the students irrespective of their age and positions were to contribute their part, big or small, the school will definitely find back the glory it use to posses. So buddies, let’s start to spread the news around, to our commrades, our seniors and our juniors about this GREAT and BENEFICIAL event on 25TH OCTOBER 2009. We get to meet more SCHOOLMATES AND CLASSMATES so put a BIG MARK IN YOUR DIARY, OK??????????????

Cheers.

ACTUAL AUSTRALIAN COURT DOCKET 12659
—CASE OF THE PREGNANT LADY—

A lady about 8 months pregnant got on a bus.
She noticed the man opposite her was smiling at her.
She immediately moved to another seat.
This time the smile turned into a grin, so she moved again.
The man seemed more amused.
When on the fourth move, the man burst out laughing,
she complained to the driver and he had the man arrested.

The case came up in court.

The judge asked the man (about 20 years old)
what he had to say for himself.

The man replied, ‘Well your Honor, it was like this:
when the lady got on the bus, I couldn’t help but notice her
condition. She sat down under a sign that said,
‘The Double Mint Twins are coming’ and I grinned.

Then she moved and sat under a sign that said,
‘Logan’s Liniment will reduce the swelling,’ and I had to smile.

Then she placed herself under a deodorant sign that said,
‘William’s Big Stick Did the Trick,’ and I could hardly contain
myself.

But, Your Honor, when she moved the fourth time
and sat under a sign that said,
‘Goodyear Rubber could have prevented this Accident!’
… I just lost it.’

‘CASE DISMISSED!!’

After the party,
I am glad that there was a stream of criss cross relationship building .. Very apt at this age.. What better age should it be.. after 32 years .. the night has brought countless and revived endless memories that would never had been dreamt about . Now it is good to rebuild your childhood castle and get , create, join in to opportunities that surface.. remember there isnt too much of these chances so grab a hold of it when you can .
So I thought it may be a good time for me to give all a quick update of what is being lined up.. in the next few weeks to come ..
1) Visit to the school..- To be confirmed once we sort out the timing. Looking at next week onwards .. Amy to revert on blogsite. Those interested should watch out for the timing.. Tasan to revert with the list of things that will need attention for the school….
It is a good opportunity for those who have the time and heart to do something for the school. Many ideas , brillantly put forth on how we could help out the school and generate a continuous impetus for the rest of the good souls of mss out there in the woods.

2) Then comes Brendda Ooi Poh Kuan show- a Chinese opera charity dinner. It is on 5th September evening in KL. Those who are interested to watch teh performance or plainly to get together please do not forget to call Brendda. I am hearing there is quite a crowd of mss1977 that night- about 20 plus . SO pick up that phone and the album to call Brendda. Be thrill with the performance of yoru classmate in this chinese opera..heck if you dont understand but I am sure you will be chatting your way out the whole night .. Watch out Poh Kuan may suddenly get off the stage in full armour to point her lance at you ..to shut up and listen to the clickerty clackerty of the show… or is it like what Tom say,,, took took chan( not from thailand) ,
3) There is then the Kenduri at Taman Herba on 24th September 12pm to 4 pm .at our dear princess home in between Simpang Pulai and Gopeng.. Directions coming up once I have it scanned for posting . Puteri has reminded me to invite as many mates and gals as possible to the luncheon.. Maybe the group can ajourn to Tanjung Tualang for fresh water prawns later for dinner ..Tasan and Eon Bank will play host… so who is interested jump into the band wagon .. But do let Puteri know if you are not able to attend or else she will be expecting all 62 pax from teh night of the reunion.

Anything planned for October ? Any birthdays? Any weddings ( Tom? ) …. Juniors? any new babies? Take time to share your pleansantaries of your life with your friends .. It does not take a million Ringgit to share happiness, It just requires a small but sincere heart of gold to tell your happenings in life in simple words..
Use this blogsite as your own , use the album to move those butts out..use yor phone to make that call. sms , voice mails ,miss call or what ever it takes to get the message through.,.

Anyone for Karaoke? coffee , tea…… or whatever ? Small work groups…

Get active with your group.. dont slouch…

Anyone still have not sent thier pretty pictures taken from your own camera to AMY yet? I think she is waiting to try to compile as many as she can for all. SO please rush and please help her complete this project to get those pics out to all.

Enjoy your self…

Barry

Halo, halo, halo,

Got lost in the “jungle” of work and personal matters right after that wonderful nite and now finally found my way out. I AM BACK. The PUSSY CAT IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Takes me an hour to read all the postings and comments after that eventfull nite (any strange happenings???????????????).

First, Mimi, hope your dad is ok from HUKM. Mine just had a minor ops and back to SS now. It’s been really 32 years since we met and I still remember the time when I would try to find the excuse to have lunch in your house. Your mama cooking very, very good. And sayang, we need to meet up to “sibuk” more. Same with Nordaiah and Samsinah.

Like Yap Yuk Min says, the party should end the next morning. There is so many people that I miss catching up with, it’s just way too short. Anyone can volunteer to hold the next one, maybe in 3 years time??? We should change venue and make it back it SS or in the school itself. That would really brings back a lot of memories for everyone. By then, I believe many will have elevated status into “datuk/nenek”; 3 generations, what a feat and I am sure you guys remember Tom See version of how Physics links up with Chemistry and eventually leads to Biology Experiment for the man who plucks the forbidden fruit. Tom, is that how you got “attached” without attending all these lessons????????????? Man, you should have said that to the teachers that nite and they will feel very dissappointed with all those Science students. 2 years of lessons and still do not know the “hidden connections”. Wait, maybe themselves for not making it so simple as what Tom did. Bravo, the New Era Teacher. Change profession lah.

Glad to see new classmates in the blog such as Soo ha, Narayana, Rose and Ching Swee. This quiet Ching Swee is something like Tom as well. Don’t play, play with quiet man. Imagination runs pretty wild. Right, Tarzan. Friend, we need to plan for a trip down to SS for the handing over of funds. I have not deducted the drinks for that nite and there will be some additional miscellaneous which I will send the final breakdown to you. Good to hear, Yen Kieong has donated another 1K. Does he want to add it into the funds to make a plaque of MSS1977?

Cheers for now.

Sze Kiat (Amy)

Back to the photos. Received all the photos from Barry last Friday so pls, pls give me more time to burn them into CD. My marketing team is busy with exhibition this week so next week, they will get cracking to burn 80+ CDs. Wait a minute ok. For those who wants to share their photos, you can email them to me or burn them on a CD and send to me this week so that I can input them with the other photos into one CD of photos and ppt presentation on that reunion. There are some photos that were sent to me earlier that didn’t make it into the ppt presentation that nite but will be burnt into the CD as well. Whatever that is send to me will be put into the just one CD. In the meantime, keep the blog lively. My address is 11, Persiaran Industri, Bdr Sri Damansara, 52200 Kuala Lumpur.

I would also like to take this opportunity to apologize if there is any mistakes of names or contact number or emaill address in the printing of the photo album. I did a final proof reading but somehow we did notice some mistakes such as Sea Ping’s contact which should be 019 instead of 012. I still have 1 extra book with me so pls let your friends know if they are interested. I have 2 extra bears with me so anyone who have contributed RM500 and above and did not receive the cute little bear, pls contact me.

Time : 12.00 pm to 4.00 pm
Address: Lot 1446, RPT Tekah Baru,

Barry

I cannot but help to go back at this phrase for the last few hours..
Was going into my last two holes at a golf game this afternoon and was lousy at the first nine. Feeling was terrible .. how bad I played.. after two years and a lot of burnt skin… what does it takes to hit a second shot on a par 4 hole and have it land with a credible birdie chance distance? Life is such ! Malang , I thought ! then I thought again and again .. what has it got to do with that? It was the uneven terrains… or was it the divot that the previous flight left at the 120m mark? It ended up no where ! Lovely shady weather today … nice company to play with in a threesome in a great course.. No pressure as no betting was on the table./.
Walking thru the manicured greens felt good.. always wanted these kind of grass on my lawn .. not realising that there are lots of layers beneath this green …making this part of the course almost environmental unnatural … But after all said and done for hole 16 … managed a par.
Just as we walked over to the 17th Tee off….Rashid .. my buggy mate was just about to tee off when an monitor lizard ( less than 18 inches) walked right across the platform less than 2 metres from the ball set up line… Rashid stopped …. it stopped … six eyes shot back at each other ( Rashid had four eyes – spectacles la. and I did not notice the monitor lizard had any specs) > for a moment I thought either one party would have left .. We kept quite being eco friendly and the next moment the lizard charged forward at Rashid… Almost instantaneously we all backed up to a safe distance… The lizard cooly went up to the Titliest ProV1 ball and took a bite at it and ran off into the shrubs… Funny isn’t it ? The golf ball did not look , feel or even resemble food or egg. For that Rashid lost one stroke! Lost ball before Tee off! I consoled him that at least he managed to safe the important ones.. and we carried on given our friend a mulligan..
As we approached the greens of the eventful par 3, we managed to scoff at the lost ball and how unfortunate the lizard must have been to bring back the wrong eggs to the nest .. It would take 10 centuries and yet not a fart would even come out of this ball made in USA. Well that is life again ! One guy lost a ball the other got an egg!
As we prepared to finish off the game at the last hole , dark clouds started to roll in and winds started to pick up . Hastlity we tee off across the lake’s 160m span. Twack , twack , twack ….Plonk! Another mishap! Gotta take a drop at the drop zone.. I though this is dead .. I will quit after this last hole and go to the temple in Tibet ..for six months before i play again. Took the 3 wood and swap! finished the swing and swoosh! the ball went straight as an arrow right to 50 m mark to the green . Treading up the slope with a 60degrees on my hand and a putter ready to three or two put atthe green I reached the ball only to find it was plugged… what a day .. what a last two holes.. Rashid was yelling …. Hoi Barry ! take a free drop.. ! I thanked him for his generousity and did so.. Adjusted my swing and tried a few swipes and took the ball lofting upi almost 35 meters up into the cloudy sky in the direction of the flag… my fourth shot… I was expecting a bogey or double at least if it did not go into the bunker laced greens.
Went up to the green to wait for the guys to get finish thier shots and holy macaroni! I could not find my ball! as it was getting dark but I was certain it was a good shot.. Frustrated …I surveyed the bunkers around the green….. could not find it ….
Then came a roar of excitement from my back… Hoi! Bola Masuk la… ! I had holed the shot ! The first one I have ever done so playing in two years… It was a gooooood feeling!
Looks like I am not quiting golf yet!

Now what has this boring narrative got to do with all my good friends out there ? I wonder as I wrote non chalantly on my endeavour today at the Saujana Bunga Raya course…
1) Get more interested to play golf?
2) Try to impress people with the lousy but lucky shot i have played ?
3) Introduce the monitor lizards to those who intends to try out the course in future?
4) No no no .. It was about the walk in life … There a uphills and down hills. Expect the unexpected. Be prepared to do your best … Saviour the fruits of your labour and share them with your best of friends. for it was the same friends that share the terrains with you throught the 18 holes of your life , the joy , the happiness and off course not forgetting thier sorrowful moments..
5) It is an honourable thing to do to respect your elders & teachers, a grateful thing to do to care for your school and more than anything else it is the touching thing to extend your helping hand to the needful for life is all about the walk that you have taken, about to take and will take…
6) It does not matter which course you play .. there is only one final destination.. that is to finish the course contented that you are happily satisfied that you did your best truefully..

Hello all…… Hope you all have enjoyed the last two holes … and YES the above excerpt is COPY right protected only for this blog site ..

Regards

Barry
